Solution 1:
Restoring deleted files on Mac using the Trash Bin. When you delete a file, it goes directly to a folder called Trash. And if you haven’t deleted your trash, then you are in luck.
- Open the Trash Bin icon on your desktop and you’ll be able to see all the deleted files.
- Locate the file that you accidentally deleted and drag them back to the desktop or right-click and select ”Put Back”. The file will return to its original location.
Solution 2:
Restoring deleted files on Mac using the Undo Option. You should do it immediately after deleting a file. It only works if you have not emptied your Trash folder or permanently deleted the file.
- Go to ”Edit” and select the ”Undo Move” option.
OR
Press Command + Z to undo the delete operation.
Solution 3:
Restoring deleted files from Mac using Mac Terminal. If you want to recover your deleted files without using software then Terminal is a good choice. But again it can only recover files if they are present in Trash.
- Go to “Finder” > “Applications” > “Utilities” and double-click “Terminal”.
- Type command cd.Trash and press the “Return” key on your Mac.
- Type mv xxx../ and hit “Return”. (xxx means the name of the deleted file).
- Type Quit to exit the Terminal window.
- Go to “Finder” your Mac. Enter the name of the file you want to recover in the search bar. Then the deleted file will appear.
Solution 4:
Restoring deleted files from Mac using Time Machine Back Up. This option is for those of you who permanently deleted their files. And don’t have a copy in the Trash folder. Time Machine Back up is an application by Apple to back up your Mac. If you have enabled Time Machine then you can restore your data from a recent backup. But if there was no backup then this method is useless.
- Connect the disk used for Time Machine backup to your Mac and turn it on.
- You can find the specific files you want to restore using the onscreen up and down arrows to locate it. Then you can preview it by pressing Space Bar.
- Finally, click the “Restore” button, and then the deleted file will be returned to its original location.
In case of no backup, we suggest that you try third party softwares or let professionals handle this for you.
Even though there are solutions to recover your data on Mac, but for a second think if you didn’t have a backup and also permanently deleted your file, then what would you do.
It’s always good to keep a backup of everything that’s important to you. Apple has given an amazing facility, Time Machine, that can automatically back up everything for you. You just need to invest in a little bit of your time and set up the application. And if you lose a file permanently you’ll still have a recent back up to recover it from.
